A contemporary space for our time but which also acknowledges the deep connection to the past – a building that looks as though it will last for all time. It was important in the development of this project to understand the very strong connection and respect that Indigenous Australians have for Country.
Some features of this project – rammed earth to represent an age-old connection with the land but with a central core of insulation to provide comfort; small cut out (double glazed) openings represent traditional shelter made from branches and to allow a view of the outside; and the bagdirs represent huge toas while providing ventilation and cooling.
