INFILL, SECOND-TIER RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT THAT STRADDLES THE EXISTING BUILT FABRIC, CREATING NEW SPACE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY.
As at the time of doing this (fifth year Uni) project in 2010, it was predicted that by the year 2026 Adelaide and the wider metropolitan area would be home to 1.4 million people, a rise of 1300 people per year from that point. The City itself would have 35,000 residents.
Accommodating this growing population will provide challenges and opportunities for new residential development within the CBD. The consequent benefits will be a more diverse community and the greater critical mass of population will ensure a more vibrant environment within the city limits outside of business hours.
Current practice for catering for a growing population follows a well-established pattern within the city and beyond, of developers buying rundown property, demolishing it and replacing it with new buildings in the current fashion of the day.
