In 2006, the City of Mount Gambier presented the community with two proposals (Options A and B) to extend a shopping centre onto an adjoining property, known locally as the Railway Land. This property had been gifted to the City by the State Transport Authority.
As a long term and then current resident of Mount Gambier, I was concerned at the focus of the proposal and so prepared and submitted an alternative proposal for the land (uninvited), believing that the land would be better used to benefit the whole community as a central park, or town square which would incorporate a range of outdoor recreational pursuits, both active and passive.
